One and None
Andy Scisco
These are the mysteries of the world
Her mother used to say
When she was just a little girl
And memories of winter
Now come rushing to her head
They fill her mouth with cinnamon
They color the house red
She sees it like a photograph gainst the frozen sky
Recalls a place where
Only little girls and boys survive
And from her room a thoughtful gaze
Is wandering outside
Where the town lies sleeping
In the blue and yellow night
Out there, out there
So many hearts are spare
Like she, like she
With eyes too wide to see
Out there, out there
Close in the troubles they share
Because one and none are pair
This is the dawning of a change
She leans against the thought
It helps a bit, but she feels strange
When walking in the footsteps
And the shadows of her friends
Indifferent to all the gentle guidance
They may lend
Out there, out there
So many hearts are spare
Like she, like she
With eyes too wide to see
Out there, out there
Safe in the circles of the world
A contemporary girl
Out there
Out there, out there
So many hearts are spare
Like she, like she
With eyes too wide to see
Out there, out there
